Coaching / Playing Style
I don’t feel as if there is any “perfect” or “ideal” way to play poker. I do think it’s important to evaluate every street of play and to consider future streets throughout the entire hand. Focusing on why you're doing what you're doing and really getting into how you're thinking about each hand is a continuous theme in my lessons. I recently took part in Reid’s (aka: shootaa) group coaching and the program was great. Reid really helped me think more creatively and generally improve as a player.
How My Coaching Works
I cater my coaching to each student individually, everyone is different and has different styles of learning / improving. Generally I have a new student make a video with no audio for the first lesson and review it with him. It’s the most efficient way for me to analyze your game and develop a plan to move forward with. From there, live sweats, hh reviews, more recorded sessions, theory lessons, etc, are all viable options depending on your specific wants and needs.
Long term relationships with my students are important to me and anyone that receives coaching will also receive my AIM screen name, email address and access to my private coaching forum here on Leggo. I encourage all my students to send me hh’s via email, skype or AIM between lessons. It’s a great way to reinforce concepts and make sure nothing is misapplied.
Poker Background
I started playing poker in high school when my friends and I saw the movie “Rounders.” After that it was Moneymaker winning the WSOP and we were immediately playing whenever we could: we were all hooked. When I went away to college at Marquette University I didn’t know if I’d be able to keep playing, but was hoping I could. Luckily, within the 2nd week there were a few nightly games in the basement of my dorm. Looking back I wasn't very good but thankfully everyone else was absolutely terrible. Towards the end of 1st semester, a group of the better guys and I started talking poker a lot and found Party Poker. I started by getting a “roll” of 50 bucks from a buddy and played ½ Limit. I Played that all through freshman year and did well, started moving up, etc. Sophomore-senior year I played anywhere from 3-6 to 30-60 Limit and never even tried No Limit aside from SNG’s. Throughout college I had my ups and downs but made a pretty decent amount of money although I struggled with tilt for a long time.
When I graduated I wanted to play poker full time but got a pretty good job offer in outside sales. I took it while still playing Limit on the side. Eventually I realized that I wanted to give No Limit a whirl but I quickly found out the games weren't as easy online! I joined Leggo at some point during that time and made a few friends on 2p2 and grinded. I started winning at NL100 and was considering quitting my job but I received an offer in Pharmaceutical Sales that was too much money to pass up. On the side I kept playing poker, watching videos, checking 2p2 and Leggo forums all the time, anything to try and get better. Eventually I decided to quit and give poker a go, My family, friends and girlfriend all supported it, which was awesome. I've been playing full time for about a year now and I'm loving it, the freedom is great.
