Unhappy i run too good

i am struggling to put in the hours this month as i am running so well. i don't know why but i just don't seem to be playing alot. my plan was 40k hands hoping to earn about $8k or so at NL200, but now i've only managed 11k so far this month.

is this a problem other people have. i suppose it is just the playing long sessions while stuck and short sessions while winning that is the problem, and i haven't been stuck at all really this month.

how do any of you guys overcome this. i have said to myself if i win a couple of buyins early that i have to play on till 1000 hands or something, is this a good idea?

i don't play mega long sessions stuck 5 buyins or anything as i usually quit when i drop that many, but if i am breaking even or up a bit or down 1 or 2 buyins i can put in a pretty good session.

I noticed I was doing something similar to you: playing longer sessions when not running well but quitting early when things are going good.

I thought about it and realized the longer sessions when running poorly were efforts to keep playing until I booked a winning session, and the short sessions when I got off to a good start resulted from the desire to quit and book a winning session. Neither one of these is a productive thought process.

The solution for me was to schedule my sessions and for the most part try to play for the planned upon amount of time/hands regardless of results. The only time I usually let myself quit early is if I'm not playing my A game due to tilt.

(This has been working ok for me so far but I'm only a part time player and my hands-per-month goals are far less than yours.)

I'm the opposite.

If i lose a buy-in i usually just quit, even if its only after 20 hands or so lol.

On the other hand if im winning i'll keep playing till i hit 4 buy-ins or so and then i'll quit because i get an overwhelming sense of impending doom!

I would probably try not checking your results mid-session. If you know that you're up 5 or 6 buyins and you get the feeling that you wanna quit (I do too) then I think that taking a short break and starting again 30 minutes later is a good idea. Just pretend that it's a new day so your old results are wiped clean.

set yourself X number of hands to play a day and stick to it, unless you have very good reason not to (running well is not a good reason!).

i find sometime if your running good and have won a few buyins just to evaluate your tables

if youve busted the fish and theyve left or suddenly there an agr reg at your table than leave. But if your table conditons are perfect than you gotta keep playin.

i really noticed the diffference in how you gotta stay at these tables and put in the hands after christmas time. when i realized how soft the games were and i regret winning 4 buyins or so and leaving that probably woulda stayed good for days.
than trying to find the same type of games 2 weeks later and they had all gotten a bit tougher again

yea I have this problem big time. In a sense Im afraid to continue on after I have won 3 or 4 Buy ins in a session because I need to book a win. And likewise I will grind really long when I am stuck 0-3 BIs inorder to get back even. It is really a terrible mindset, but hard to overcome because there will always be times where you get up a few Buyins and then tell ur self to stay with it and end up booking a losing session, and afterwards kick youself for not quitting while ahead. Results oriented thinking FTW!
