Suggestions for improving session length?
I wonder if anyone has some experience with this. I currently play about 1 hour sessions, and want to maybe lengthen them to 1.5-2 hours. However, I have a case of winner's tilt, or sometimes just loser's tilt, aka I don't want to lose what I've made in the session, or don't want to keep losing $X in the current session. I don't really have a stop loss, but I never want to be in that place where I feel like I'm trying to gamble it up to make back my losses. So even, without checking HEM and stuff to see how I'm doing in terms of session results, I keep track mentally in my head sort of, like if I win a stack I'll know I'm up around "at least a buyin", etc.
Because of this, I think I have trouble putting in hands/hours, and ultimately, good sessions when I'm playing well.
If anyone has tips or suggestions, or any experiences they would like to share...it would be appreciated.
Also may it be noted that I play 4 tables of 6max, sometimes up to 6, but lately that is rare.

Re: Suggestions for improving session length?
Playing you're A game is far more important than putting in hands. If you feel you tilt or stop playing well after x amount of time the best thing to do is play an hour, take a 15min break or so and then come back, maybe review your last session, and then play for another hour. rinse and repeat
I think if you're playing well and feeling good you should play as long as possible. Just have to be honest with yourself which is usually hard to do. Personally i just try to condition myself by playing shorter sessions w/ a good mindset, and then gradually i'm able to maintain focus for longer periods of time.
Also i reccomend checking out this post, i asked Boywonder about this same situation and he gave me a pretty decent response. it's post #137 i believe ( http://www.leggopoker.com/forums/cag...52-page14.html)

Re: Suggestions for improving session length?
If you don't feel that you have an edge at your tables leave, if you feel like your getting tired and losing your edge just leave. Aside from these reasons if you confident in your play and your edge over the other players, I don't see why you would want to quit.
Results should never be a consideration, if they are try losing more till where it doesn't bother you anymore. I know that sounds dumb, but overtime you become numb to the swings. The only thing that should matter is your level of focus, play and the opponents at the table. If any one of these things are not in order just quit. If they are you won't want to quit because everybody likes making money.

Either be prepared for the session, like don't come back from work and sit right away or wake up and put up the tables so that you will naturally have more energy or sitout, take a rest and continue. For me the best rest is mute sound and lie on my bed for 5 mins and just rest then I'm ready for another half hour to an hour.

Re: Suggestions for improving session length?
What I do is to set an alarm clock. So if I'm going to play 2 hours I set the alarm to ring after 1 hour. Then I take a quick break, go to the toilet get some fresh water etc. And then I go for the next hour.
Now the hard part for me is to stop playing when I'm down. But I just have to train myself to click the sit out next bb box when the alarm rings. With no consideration if I want to play on because I'm down.
That means I won't play longer when I'm winning obviously but I know myself and know that if I play too long I get tired. And then I tilt easier and it just goes to shit.

Re: Suggestions for improving session length?
Haha I've actually considered adderall. But I think the steps I'm taking these days to put in a little longer sessions is to have some structure in my day and designate certain times for poker. It's just tough sometimes when I sit at heads up tables because action can be really good, or it can be the complete opposite. So I'm trying to mix in more 6max to my game, but I'm still learning to adjust to 6max ranges and not to spew, which is tough for me =P.
