100nl, 2nd pair on river
Not super happy with my line here. villain is 21/18 over 250 hands, very aggro, likes to 3bet from the blinds, raised cbets 2 out of 5 times. What is your plan on river as played so far? Do you check/call, and how big of a bet? Anyone check/fold? Would you 3bet flop? Thanks.
Hero ($100)
BB ($119)
UTG ($118)
UTG+1 ($207)
CO ($122)
BTN ($122)
Dealt to Hero J J
fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $3, BB calls $2
FLOP ($6) 6 T 4
Hero bets $4, BB raises to $14, Hero calls $10
TURN ($34) 6 T 4 9
Hero checks, BB checks
RIVER ($34) 6 T 4 9 Q
Hero????

Re: 100nl, 2nd pair on river
i would probably just 3bet the flop most of the time and hope he shoves with some draw or AT/KT (a good player will realize you aren't 3bet/folding a board like this but he's probably not all that good)
on the river you're rarely behind and i doubt anyone has a queen so the question is whether or not to ck/bluffcatch or bet to rep hearts/57 or a 4/6 turning itself into a bluff. i kinda expect him to expect you to ck snapcall all your tens here since a queen doesn't really make sense for him to have, and he knows he can't rep anything big after checking the turn. he probably also doesn't think you'd valuebet most tens on the river in which case your river vbetting range is like 2p+, so i think you can throw him for a loop by vbetting thinnish w/ JJ here (even though i don't think it's that thin). if he's pretty bad and bluffs missed draws mindlessly then ckcall i guess, but i think i prefer betting. AT/KT are def calling and because of what i said i think 98/97 can talk itself into a call

Re: 100nl, 2nd pair on river
Ya I 3b the flop most of the time, call a little more if I were in position here.
Most of the time best you can hope for is for him to rep the queen on the river, I'm ch/calling basically all the time. Betting basically lets him play perfect vs you.

Re: 100nl, 2nd pair on river
I think 3betting the flop would be best.
As played: I am going with a bet/fold here. Villain is not too often gonna bluf the river after he checks back the turn imo(?) And there is prob. some value in a bet cause ur line looks weird if u bet and u might get called by Tx or 8/9 and 9/7

Let him hang him self. Check call the river. We have the best hand here alot of the time and he doesn't often have a call here if we bet.

I mostly dont like getting in on the flop in this situation but against this villain i think its ok. As played, i agree with others that river is a c/c.

Re: 100nl, 2nd pair on river
in a BVB you must fist pump 3 bet/get it in on this flop. i think you will get stack offs with tons of hands that you crush or are at least flipping with percentage wise but your equity in the hand warrants a stack off.
as played, however, absolutely bet folding this river.

Re: 100nl, 2nd pair on river
It almost looks like villain turned 89 or something similar when he checks back turn. I would assume he continues to follow through with a bluff and fire barrels w air so when he does check back turn, it seems like he picked up something to showdown. That being the case, I'd bet river as it's difficult for us to have a Q, he may not expect us to bet a 10, and there are plenty of missed draws in our range, and I think he snaps it off with worse a lot.
Also, I don't expect him to bet this river when checked to as a bluff very often. I think he just follows through on turn if he were to take a bluff line. If he turned 9x though, I think he checks back river close to 100% of the time. If he ever has a 10 and plays his hand this way, his calling range on the river is going to be wider than his betting range as well.

Re: 100nl, 2nd pair on river
just wanted to add as i was thinking about this hand a bit more - i don't think we ever have missed hearts on the river so the more i look at it the narrower our bluffrange is, however he's a 100nl reg (no offense to anyone who does play it! - just an assumption i think we can make) and will probably just be like "oh well hearts missed i call"
so i still prefer betting, just wanted to add that
