JamesMa - $100 NL
Video Description: In this video James plays 4 tables of $100 NL 6-Max on PokerStars. James discusses interpreting different lines and bet sizes and when it can be a good idea to 3-bet small pocket pairs when out of position pre-flop.

Re: JamesMa - $100 NL
14 minutes in.
You 3b BTN v CO w AdQd, the flop comes Kc5c4d and the guy donks in to you for 5. You call, the turn brings the 9 that completes the flush. He bets 5 again and you raise to 23, and he calls. The river is a J. He checks and so do you, and he wins with KQ.
I'm a bit confused about this spot. When I was watching it I was thinking how you're going to shove the river and take it down, and how I should maybe be doing more of that because the villain will have a tough time calling. What do you think about a river bluff there? Isn't raising the turn without firing the river not accomplishing much, since we're only folding out the weakest part of his range is that spot.
Thanks.

Well he was a 100 VPIP player at the time and a guy who I had no info about so I wasn't super thrilled to be jamming 63 bbs in and trying to get him to fold the river when his range could very well contain flushes, Kx, QQ-TT type of hands that he will probably not fold given how he played the hand. If I had a read at least that the guy calls a turn raise and folds on the river or calls a flop raise, then folds on the turn then I'd feel a lot better about a river bluff. I dont think he's ever folding the river btw with KQ. I was hoping that my turn raise would fold out a lot of his mediocre hands that weren't Kx or better obviously, as in villain's mind and yours, a river shove is expected. So when he does call the turn and the river blanks I think there's a pretty good chance he calls a river shove as well.
I also find that sometimes when players bet really small and then call a raise, they will call down with mediocre hands on future streets cuz they feel they have induced it and cannot fold.

Re: JamesMa - $100 NL
Hi James, sorry for posting late here, I just renewed a subscription last night.
I learned a lot when you got raised with KK on J72tt Multi-way oop towards the end of the video. Your line was to call and fold a flush completing turn or check shipping a blank turn to protect your equity.
Lets Say you opened again from MP and the button flatted you heads up, obviously it's villain dependent but I'd still like to see what you think
1. With KK on on 789tt would you bet fold, ck/call to preserve your equity on the flop or bet/call to wait for a safe turn against a guy who can bluff raise those boards...
2. How about a JT9tt or QJTtt or JT9tt with KK, how would you approach that board texture?
-Thank You!

In general I would bet because most ppl will flat pair + draws among other things that we have beat in both situations... If raised...Its tough to say what to do as the variables involved will change my decisions like is the villain going to pull some fancy bluff, how deep we are is really really important, will villain go crazy with a bluff if i check a draw heavy board, etc.
