When he says "splitting my range" it usually means "if I bet I will only be called by better hands." The reason this is bet in a general sense is that it does not allow villain to bluff with his air which he just folds and it takes away the SD value of our hand if we get raised and have to fold (or are not sure what to do). I did not watch this video though so Ashton can elaborate more when he stops playing poker or wakes up!

Around 33 mins. you have k9 inpos and the board gets checked down on As Qh Th Kh 6d and villain vbets $11 - $69 and you say you don't like it.

It seems like a goofy spot to expect you to bluff at that point and you are checking back alot of hands you are calling with, and probably giving up alot. His hand is obviously best here most of the time. I would say he should have v bet bigger maybe $28.

splitting range is simply making a bet where better hands raise or call and worse hands fold.

I think T9s is a bad hand to 3-bet with as getting 4-bet a fifth of the time is semi-disastrous. The q3o and K2o were more based on match flow as I was expecting to win his 3BB a higher than normal % of the time.

Apologies for being thick...but why do we call it "splitting our range" then?

on the jack high four flush board where you c/c c/c lead, you explained why you do this, but arn't people capable of hero calling four flush boards in general?

Split his range is more descriptive but sounds less cool

i dont understand why you think you can rep air by leading when you 3-bet and call a 4-bet 200bb deep and lead on Q75 2tone, to me your entire range looks like it has some SD value but didnt want to get in and i don't think you'd ever lead TT JJ on that flop (furthermore, when you think his range for 4-betting is big valuehands that he wanted to get in pre and a lot of trash, only some of which connected with the flop and look to get to SD), leading becomes more and more strange

you say you can try and rep like 98o or A6o or something but why would you ever be calling a 4-bet with those OOP (and A6 is like a super-random flop lead and really has nothing to do with anything other than you "would have turned an OESD on the turn which you would now be jamming", which i think is completely irrelevant given that i would never ever expect you to have it in your range to begin with) ?

i mean .. i can understand that his range is too wide and he's too poor of a handreader to fold his weak pairs on the flop thus making your lead OKish but these are different reasons from what you said

hey ash. cool vid.

1) Haven't watched any of ur other vids yet, but is 3 betting 40%ish standard for u? Seems insanely high! (are u generally 3 betting far less against opponents who rarely fold to 3 bets? usually, i will not 3 bet that often against these types unless i know they'll fold often to a flop cbet - maybe this is a mistake?)

2) 15 min in - You say that u might checkraise the 99x two toned board if u had a read. (think u had J8 and said like if u knew what to do when u pair, u'd consider it, etc).

Could you give an example of a specific read (hypothetically) that would make u feel comfortable checkraising there?
